What I learned in WEEK3

In WEEK 3, I found many useful  web sites for my teaching and posted them in my Delicious. And also, as I read previous project reports, I can get more concrete ideas for my project.
I have learned about the advantages of CALL from articles. Especially, I pay attention to the fact it provides the private environment that enables learners to learn listening and pronunciation at their own pace.
Yesterday, in the 5th graders class, I tried talking about internet for learning English. My students really showed their interests in internet in terms of accessing authentic English. They seemed to have confidence in handling the internet by themselves. I hope CALL will stimulate their interests in real English and motivate them to learn English.

  1. Dear Tomoko,

It must be pretty tough to be teaching and still working on this course. My fifth graders are on summer vacation until the end of August. Children now days are drawn to the access of Internet. They responded well to computer aided learning. What's your teaching environment like? Interested to know about your class.

  2. Hi Tomoko

I especially wanted to comment on your reflection as you have a great point about Clifford. That huge dog is my daughter's lover and it appeals to all kids so I am sure it works in language learning as well.

I agree with you about the effectiveness of internet to raise interest and this or that way they are fond of computer and there waits great things for kids. Please try "Genki English" by Richard Graham with your kids. If you google it, you will easily reach it.It is great for young learners. You have to pay for the teachers' pack which is not too expensive. You can even collect small amounts of money from your students explaining the situation to the parents. It is not too expensive but is worth every single cent.

I strongly agree with you about this week's project task. It has set light to our task. I hope we do well on it.

    Greetings, Nehir

  3. Hey Tomoko

I surely believe that kids (5th grade class) will actively interact with Internet for Learning English.

Since they are kids, They will love "The Flatmates"
You can give them the link and some questions to answer in an activity they can do at home.
I am just amazed how Internet and CALL can help us in making our job easier and more productive.

    Kind regards
